The Peruvian Ministry of Culture modified the ticket purchase process for Machu Picchu and eliminated the previous group reservation system that had been in place. According to Minister of Culture Alberto Beingolea, the new system replaces that approach with direct sales and confirmed payment, where the available ticket is held for the user for a maximum of 15 minutes. After this time, the reservation is automatically canceled.
This timeframe represents a significant reduction from the previous system, which allowed up to three hours to complete the transaction. The measure aims to prevent unpaid reservations from artificially reducing the number of Machu Picchu tickets available to the public visiting one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
How the Official Machu Picchu Platform Works
Before accessing the sales platform, visitors must have decided on the date they plan to visit Machu Picchu—a particularly important step during peak demand periods, when tickets tend to sell out quickly. After selecting the date, visitors choose the circuit and route they wish to take.
The official platform, available at tuboleto.cultura.pe, allows you to select:

- Visitor origin

Visitors must have their passport or national ID (DNI) ready before starting the purchase process, as the new system links each ticket to the identification of the person who will visit. According to the ministry, this measure aims to strengthen control and transparency in Machu Picchu ticket sales.
Time Limit for Machu Picchu Ticket Payment
The most significant change for visitors is the reduced time available to complete the purchase. Under the previous system, visitors had three hours to finalize their reservation. Now, once they select an available ticket, they must complete payment within a maximum of 15 minutes.
