The official start date for Machu Picchu’s digital ticket sales system has been announced after months of controversy and discussions surrounding its implementation. Amidst debates and concerns about awarding the project to a private company, the Ministry of Culture has confirmed that, starting January 20, tickets for entry to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail Network will be available for purchase through the tubeleto.cultura.pe platform, managed by Joinnus.
As of noon on Friday, January 12, the traditional platform of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture Cusco (DDCC) – machupicchu.gob.pe – and its dedicated extranet for reservations and ticket sales will be operational. This platform will facilitate bookings and ticket purchases for visits to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail Network until December 31 of this year. The platform is set to be deactivated on January 20, marking the transition to the tubeleto.cultura.pe platform.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes its commitment to the migration of Machu Picchu to the new platform, stating that it offers transparency and comprehensive information for better decision-making. The implementation of this virtual system follows months of deliberation and resistance from unions opposing the migration.
Until January 20, the DDC platform will remain active solely for sales related to visits until December 31, 2024. Tourists have the opportunity to purchase tickets from today until the end of the year. However, starting January 20, the DDC platform will be disabled, and tubeleto.cultura.pe will become the primary platform for ticket sales.
