I ordered MP tickets for 3 different circuits on 3 different days. I had been to MP in fall 2023 and knew to book tickets at least 4 months in advance; they had cut back on the number of people allowed in daily shortly after we left in 2023. Even booking out 4 months in advance again, I was not able to get into circuit 2 (most popular) until 3pm on my 2nd day. The Upper Terrace (day one) was not a problem as we were getting off the train and couldn’t be there until 2pm (which worked out). The last day we did circuit 3 (lower Terrace) at 7am, so we were able to get in when we wanted. The Boleto Peru group helped me maneuver all these moving parts and were so helpful, kind, and understanding.

Unless you’re with a tour group who buys these tickets a year in advance, I would recommend buying your tickets at least 6 months in advance and planning your trip around your MP visit so you’re not disappointed after booking flights, trains, hotel rooms, etc, and finding out that you can’t get your tickets for the dates you planned on being at MP. It’s only getting harder as they manage the numbers who can go in on a daily basis.

I visited Huayna Picchu as part of a solo journey through Peru, and the experience was unforgettable. Before the hike, I toured the Citadel with my guide, Javier, whose passion for Incan history was truly remarkable. His storytelling was vivid and heartfelt-it gave me a much deeper appreciation for the site and the significance of the hike that followed.

Javier’s knowledge and enthusiasm made the ancient ruins come alive. His ability to connect the past to the present added meaning to every step I took. The climb up Huayna Picchu was breathtaking, but it was the historical context Javier provided that made the experience truly special.

If you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend going with a guide like Javier. His insight and energy elevated the entire day.

After reading reviews about the many different companies offering tickets to Machu Picchu, my whanau and I decided to go through Inca Trail Machu. They were very efficient and ensured they accommodated our wishes coordinating the train trips and entry to Machu Picchu. If I had a question, they would reply quickly. We communicated through email and watsap. The company sent copies of the tickets to me about one month before we arrived in Peru, but ensured our physical tickets were at our hotel the day we were to leave on the train. Our guide met us at our hotel in Aguas Calientes. (He couldn’t find us with the crowds at the station but no worries the company rang us) He went through what to expect when going up Machu Picchu the next morning, and came to meet us to catch the bus up. I highly recommend having a guide, you learn much more about the life of the Incas and what each area of the ruins was used for.
